A Launch That
Matched the Vision

The opening of the Ohana Center — a 55,600-square-foot campus dedicated to transforming youth mental health — was more than a milestone. It was a manifestation of purpose, made possible by a $106 million philanthropic investment. It deserved a launch experience as expansive and thoughtful as the vision itself.

Montage Health Foundation partnered with Disruptive Development to design and execute a celebration that would honor the founding gift, engage community leaders, and introduce Ohana’s groundbreaking approach to mental fitness. The result: a multi-day, multi-audience experience that inspired, informed, and moved people deeply.

Built from First Principles

Every decision began with intention.

We clarified outcomes — connection, stewardship, alignment, inspiration — and took inventory of the assets at our disposal: an extraordinary campus, a powerful story, a deep sense of gratitude, and a community ready to rally around youth mental health.

From there, we designed a layered experience that translated a complex, deeply human vision into moments of clarity, emotion, and momentum.

The Game-Changing Invitation

Before guests even stepped foot on campus, we delivered an experience. Literally.

We designed a full-sized Mental Fitness board game as the event invitation. Thoughtfully developed through multiple iterations, the game invited participants — whether solo or in groups — to explore resilience-building activities and reflective prompts. It could be played for five minutes or an hour, and it served as both a conversation starter and a wellness tool. The activities were core to the Ohana philosophy: accessible, community-minded, and rooted in mental wellbeing.

The game became a sensation. Donors lit up with excitement. Staff integrated it into team meetings. And when delivered in person, it became a key component of our donor engagement strategy — an intentional, thoughtful way for the development team to create meaningful touchpoints and deepen relationships well before the celebration began.

The Ohana Celebration Series

Originally envisioned as a single grand opening, the celebration evolved into a four-part event series after we uncovered two critical truths: the space could accommodate only a limited number of guests at one time, and the target audiences each had distinct motivations, communication needs, and relationships to the project. Disruptive Development proposed and built a multi-event framework that allowed every stakeholder to experience Ohana in a way that felt personal, intentional, and deeply relevant — while maximizing impact and minimizing logistical strain.

We began with an intimate gathering for the founding donor and her closest circle — an experience rooted in personal connection. Guests were welcomed into the new space, offered private tours, and treated to a stunning lunch crafted with fresh, healthy ingredients inspired by the flavors of Hawai‘i. Every detail was designed to honor her generosity with sincerity, beauty, and presence.

Next came the Donor & VIP Celebration, where early supporters were invited to step inside the vision they helped bring to life. The day featured immersive campus tours, powerful video storytelling centered on youth, and a four-course, wine-paired luncheon. The food, presentation, and pacing were all orchestrated to make guests feel honored, connected, and deeply invested in the future of youth mental health.

For healthcare leaders, institutional partners, and elected officials, we hosted a Medical and Industry Executive Briefing that introduced the strategic scope of the Ohana model. The event spotlighted countywide partnerships and long-term systems change, positioning Ohana as a cornerstone in the regional continuum of care.

Finally, we partnered with internal teams to produce a Community and Media Open House — giving civic leaders and press a chance to experience the space and story before services began. With a very narrow window between construction completion and program launch, we executed a full-scale public preview with elegance and speed, creating a high-impact moment of pride and visibility for the project.

Precision in Motion

Every element of the celebration—from invitation to final farewell—was executed with precision, artistry, and grace. Guest journeys were choreographed. Speaking programs flowed effortlessly with video, story, and hospitality. Each space on campus became a stage for engagement, reflection, and transformation.

What we created wasn’t just a celebration. It was a living expression of Ohana’s values—brought to life through strategy, storytelling, and design.

Outcome & Impact

The founding donor was visibly moved. Her experience at the event deepened her personal connection to the project and reaffirmed her vision.

Donors and VIPs left inspired and proud, with a renewed sense of purpose and partnership. Medical and civic leaders left informed and aligned. The Mental Fitness game took on a life of its own, becoming a lasting tool for team connection and culture building.

Most critically, this experience gave Montage Health Foundation the opportunity to nurture and thank their donors in a profoundly impactful way — delivering on the primary goal of deep stewardship and connection. That moment of meaningful gratitude was central to why Disruptive Development was brought on board.

The events deepened the community’s connection to the Ohana project, affirmed the Foundation’s role as a trusted partner in bringing donors’ visions to life, and showcased Montage Health as a national leader in youth mental health innovation.
